New Skoda Kamiq SUV UK prices announced

Compact Skoda Kamiq SUV has a starting price of £17,700 and goes on sale in November

The new Skoda Kamiq, the brand’s third and smallest SUV, will be launched in the UK in November, priced from £17,700. The compact SUV, first revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, will compete with the SEAT Arona, Volkswagen T-Cross and Nissan Juke for sales, with Skoda attempting to outshine all the Kamiq’s main rivals by making it one of the most practical and technologically advanced models in its class.

The Kamiq’s overall shape is familiar from the Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq models already on sale but the Kamiq will become the smallest SUV in the Skoda range. The Kamiq does have a more distinctive nose than its Skoda SUV siblings, featuring split headlights with separate daytime running lights and a rugged-looking front grille. At the rear, the Kamiq borrows more design inspiration from the Skoda Scala hatchback, with angled rear LED lights and ‘Skoda’ in block lettering badging complemented by a silver-accented lower rear bumper.

The Kamiq range is made up of four trim levels; S, SE, SE L and Monte Carlo, the latter of which was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier in September. The Kamiq S, priced at £17,700, comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, air conditioning, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with DAB and ŠKODA e-Call.

The SE model, costing £19,135, has 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and Wireless Smartlink for Apple CarPlay. SE models also come with rear parking sensors, cruise control, and automatic lights and wipers.

The SE L is priced from £21,180 and gets 18-inch alloy wheels, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav, keyless engine start/stop and blind spot warning system. SE L customers also benefit from black and silver microsuede upholstery and rear LED lights with dynamic indicators.

A price for the Monte Carlo model hasn’t been announced but the car features gloss black detailing and badging, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch grey alloy wheels and a red LED ambient lighting system.

The cabin design resembles the Scala hatchback’s, with a new range of high-quality materials throughout. The infotainment system is available in three screen sizes from 6.5 to 9.2-inches, increasing in size towards the top of the range. An Audi TT-style 10.25-inch virtual cockpit can be specified as an option. New tech on offer includes wireless smartphone charging, USB-C connectivity, mood lighting, heated windscreen, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and an electric tailgate.

Skoda has ensured the Kamiq also has all the latest tech. The built-in LTE eSIM means the car is always online, enabling optimised sat nav and the Laura Skoda Digital Assistant, which responds to voice commands. A Wi-Fi hotspot, four USB-C ports for front and rear passengers and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all come as standard.

Skoda has equipped the Kamiq with an array of the latest safety technology, including Front Assist, Lane Assist, City Emergency Brake and Predictive Pedestrian Protection, and Multi-Collision Brake. Additional optional kit includes adaptive cruise control, which works with the Kamiq’s optional DSG gearbox to automatically bring the car to a halt in traffic before automatically pulling away again within three seconds as traffic starts moving.

The Kamiq will be available with a choice of four engines and front-wheel drive only. The entry-level model is the 94bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder, followed by a 113bhp version of the same engine, plus the range-topping 148bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol. A new 1.0-litre G-TEC engine is the first engine in a Skoda SUV to run on eco-friendly natural gas (CNG), developing 89bhp. The sole diesel choice is a 1.6-litre engine with 113bhp. All of the engines can be specified with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, or an optional seven-speed DSG automatic.
